Empirical pattern added

Recent revisions include a concrete example used as a basis for the patterns Empirical study and Exploratory study method. The About section of the site was restructured to include an index to the patterns and proto-patterns. The main patterns page was restructured a bit, and there was some overall minor cleanup. [MS]
